Assessing Health Inequalities Using a Dynamic Microsimulation Model
نویسنده
چکیده
The paper describes stage 1 of the development of a Health Module to a dynamic microsimulation model which simulates individuals’ life cycles. The life cycle approach has been shown in the literature to be important when studying health inequalities. The enhanced model accounts for the links between Australians' socioeconomic status and their health. The full model, which is able to project 20 to 30 years into the future, is based on a 1 per cent unit record Census sample of the Australian population.

Using geographical information systems and spatial microsimulation for the analysis of health inequalities
The paper presents a spatial microsimulation approach to the analysis of health inequalities. A dynamic spatial microsimulation model of Britain, under development at the Universities of Leeds and Sheffield, uses data from the censuses of 1971, 1981 and 1991 and the British Household Panel Survey to simulate urban and regional populations in Britain. Geographical information systems and spatial...

متن کاملSocial Modelling and Public Policy: What is microsimulation modelling and how is it being used?
The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of social modelling, and in particular a general introduction to and insight into the potential role and usefulness of microsimulation in analysing public policy. Despite having made a major contribution to the development of tax and cash transfer policies, there are many important areas of government policy to which microsimulation has not yet be...
متن کاملDynamic Microsimulation of Health Care Demand, Health Care Finance and the Economic Impact of Health Behaviours: Survey and Review
This paper reviews the issues to be faced in attempting to create a microsimulation of health care demand, health care finance and the economic impact of health behaviour. These issues identified via an in-depth review of seven dynamic microsimulation models, selected from an initial set of 27 models in order to highlight the main differences in approaches and modelling options currently adopte...
متن کاملEconomic and Health Impacts of Narrower Health Inequalities, Australia
Objective: to estimate the health and economic impacts of narrower health inequalities in Australia. The health impacts are measured in terms of improved mortality and disability rates, and the economic impacts in terms of lower government expenditures on health care costs and on the disability support pension. Material and methods: this paper reports on an application of a dynamic microsimulat...
